A Little History of Pats Computer Services

Hi there. In 2004, I created a website to help my friends with their computer issues. It was mainly an assortment of tips and tricks that covered the most common items that they requested help with. As I started exploring more topics in IT (beta testing for Microsoft, Linux, Security, and others), the site grew. Eventually, it evolved into a blog and website geared towards my computer-repair business.

As I was forced to move in other directions, the site became stagnant, and the domain expired. I hadn’t updated the site since 2019. Recently, I regained the domain name and decided to resurrect this site. It will reflect the directions that I am moving in now.

What I am doing now and plans for the site

Some of the topics I will present here include computer repair, which was the cornerstone of my site, amateur radio (especially where it intersects with computers and information technology), cybersecurity-related topics, programming-related topics, and more.

Currently, I am an Adjunct Instructor for Eastern Iowa Community College and Northwest Iowa Community College, teaching their Information Technology courses. I have my CompTIA Network+ certification and am working towards earning my CompTIA Security+ certification and PCEP/PCAP certifications (Python). I’m familiar with Python, C/C++, C#, Java, Rust, Visual Basic, PHP, HTML/CSS, and what I refer to as the “dead languages” (COBOL, FORTRAN, and Pascal), among others. And if I am not familiar with it, I will find information to help me learn it.

The Plans for the Future

I will be growing the site over the next few months. And eventually I will be bringing back some of my old posts and pages… At least the ones that are still relevant today. I might even create a subtopic on how to drag a WordPress blog from 4.8 to the current version. It’s not just a simple case of uploading your posts and being done.
